As the summer approached we had managed to sort out our first real upset and looked foward to sunny day`s,lager and footy As the tensions in the band continued to mount there was a brief respite in the troubles. But this was to be the eye of the hurricaine. The world cup in Japan and Korea was approaching.I was the only member of the band that was into football, but even the others would soon be drawn into the madness. The planned Cheddar reunion didn`t happen so it was left to me and Shani to carry on the tradition. I think I was virtually pi**ed from the day we arrived at Cheddar to the start of August. This was the start of 2 months of mayhem that would leave me single, homless and in fear of my life. |

Cheddar Gorge,May 2002 We reached Cheddar on the morning the World Cup started. The first thing Druncken said when he spotted us was "Oh no,not you lot again" We assured him the rest of the gang were`nt coming back this time and proceded to have a great weekend. We drank enough beer for the other`s and the weather was great...30 degree`s. We wound Kev up to fever pitch by constanly texting him about what he was missing and I got sunburnt in Bath. Lager for breakfast on the Sunday to watch England`s opening match against Sweden. A dissapionting 1-1,but a great goal from Sol Campbell. |

The Lair of the Cocktail We headed back to Daventry for the match everyone was talking about...England v Argentina. The best venue in town to watch footy matches and see live band`s was now Friday`s. The landlady Louise was like a black widow spider, lurking behind the bar, luring unsuspecting victims to certain death by nagging by your parnter`s,with her evil potions of cocktail`s. More of this later |

England do the Argie`s......Phil get`s a red card I was one of the first in the queue outside Friday`s on the morning of the England mtach. Phil was not a big footy supporter and decided to watch the match at home in case we lost...what a true fan! After the great victory,Phil got brave, closed his shop and joined the rest of us in celebrating the 1-0 win. We drunk for England and I remember walking down Sheaf Street with a pint of lager and a bag of chips feeling very drunk and very happy. Phil got home, was immdiatly red carded for closing his shop and was sent straight to bed without any supper...doh |

Daventry Music Festival,Sat June 8,2002 On Saturday morning,me and Phil were nursing a hangover the size of Canada. We had a really important gig to play that evening at the leisure center..the Daventry Music Festival. It was an all day event of karokee, competions and live music in the evening organised by the Daventry Express. After a lunchtime hair of the dog at Friday`s,we walked down to leisure center to check out the opposition. On the way down,Andy nearly got a smack from Phil for constanly winding him up.This resulted in Phil throwing down his lighter and making it explode. We broke the ice by carrying Phil inside past a bemused security man. The rig was impressive and all the backline was supplied. We sound checked and made the normally loud Andy sound ordinary with the huge Marshall amps. The day went well and we all looked foward to playing that evening. All the bands played well and a good night was had. The only let down was the typical Daventry mentallity of not supporting live events and the crowd turn out was pretty poor. Even so,everyone was on a high and looking foward to England progressing to greater heights in the world Cup. |

The Bender Brother`s strike again We played a midweek gig at Friday`s and looked foward to more footy. By now Kev had jumped on the football band wagon and joined us to watch England beat Denmark 3-1 on a great Saturday lunchtime in Friday`s. 3 Lions and Vindaloo played as we danced on the tables. An exciting quarter round match against Brazil was next. Except I missed the match and me and Kev launched into another one of our infamous bander`s. Nothing was planned. We went for a usuall after rehearsal pint at Friday`s the night before the match. Me and Kev were lured into the black widow`s lair of cocktail`s. I was woke at 10am the next day by Andy, promising not to let on he was there and missed the match. To this day,I still blame myself.Up to that point I had watched every match in my England shirt. My lucky charm was wearing off. The next 3 days were a blur. Me and Kev had a hair of the dog pub crawl round Daventry with a brief stop over at Phil`s shop to annoy him and the staff. Phil took us in for some food and dressed us up for this picture. We ended up clubbing in Rugby and was found the next day by Phil in the Wheatsheaf...the day of Jim and Tracey`s wedding do at the Maltster`s. Fear got us through the gig.Andy and Phil were not impressed. I carried on the next day and returned to friday`s. I missed Shani`s birthday meal and virtually ended our relationship. The final nail in the coffin was getting off with one of Phil`s staff and missing an Oasis concert. I gone too far this time.Even Phil gave me one of his scary looks when he questioned me about it. The fling only lasted 2 weeks, but the damage was done. Andy was very critcal, even though he had done the same 7 months previous.Even Kev gave me sh*t. Things were going very, very wrong. |

Woo`s of Welton After I had spilt with Shani the famous Beatle`s room at Beechtower`s became my home for a week at the end of July. It was here that wrote my first song in 4 year`s "Walls Inside". Pictured right is me and Phil recording a demo for the band. By then I had sorted out somwhere to live. My little rented bugalow in Welton is like your Nan`s place.Great 1960`s furniture and decor, but peaceful and relaxing. Away from the madness of daventry its like a little oasis in time.No noisy neighbours,no barking dogs,no noisy kids and little traffic. Just what I needed to sort myself out and recover from the mayhem of the previous months. But the first week I moved in,Kev had a fall out with his missus and we spent all week up until a stupid time putting the world to right. It was here when Kev decided to buy his own place. |

Phil Becomes a Dad Our last gig before our break for Phil`s impending fatherhood was in Northampton at the Cock Hotel on Aug 17th. We were so looking foward to playing in a big town. The only problem was that the ballon festival was on that weekend. We played a good gig a the crowd loved us,but there wasn`t enough people to impress the landlord. Micheala gave birth on Sept 4th 2002 to lovley little Anna. Phil was the proudest man alive and I will never forget going out with him to wet the babies head. He would not stop smiling all bloody nite. While Phil was busy becoming a Dad,we had a well earned rest and took stock of the situation. |
