1..Before They We`re famous
10 years ago Phil was in a band called Love in X-ile. Their main claim to fame was one of their songs being used on a dodgy porn vid made by Nothampton`s premier godfather of vice..Vinne Curran. Somewhere in the Dawson video vault I own a 50th generation copy of "Sex in Public Places,Part 2"...what a classic They needed a new bass player and advertised the vacancy. This advert was spotted by Kev,who shortly (ha,ha)afterwards, joined. After the band spilt, they both moved on to new projects, but remained great friends
But I did`nt know these 2 seedy characters then and because I cant be arsed to do much research for this story,I`ll move on to 1999.

2..Mr.Flip and Mr.Flop
The band I was in (Warehouse) had split up after a hectic 3 years of gigging and getting on each other`s t*ts.Unfortunatley we still get the blame for that dodgy song for the Cobbler`s...Sixfield Boys. I moved from Northampton to Daventry for a more peacful, quieter life...how wrong I was!
I`d joined a local covers bands I known for years, called Stiff Joints. The ex-rhythm guitarist used to live in Braunston, next door to Kev. Kev used to live there with his ex-wife.Very handy staggering distance from the Wheatsheaf. When the Stiffys bass player couldn`t make a gig,he used to ask his neighbour to stand in on bass. Kev was already in a band called Sweet Rock All.
When Kev played with the band,I thought it was great.Me and Kev got on like a house on fire.We liked similar music and loved a good session on the Stella.
Kev played quite a few gigs with us and we found a mutual respect for each other.
Kev was also good friends with a friend of mine.
He invited me and Kev on his stag trip to Bournemouth on Sept 4th 1999.This trip bonded us as great mate`s and monster beer buddies.
Kev managed to lock me out of our shared room until 3am...the git.
The following August, at the wheatsheaf after a Stiffy practice nite, me and Kev first hit on the idea of forming another band.
If memory serves me (which is quite rare these days) it was me that said to Kev "It would be great if we where in a band together"
Kev agreed, and we left it at that. The following week Kev said "Did you mean what you said last week?"
I said yes,and the ball started rolling.
Normally when you have the idea of forming a band,it takes ages to find the other people you need.
God must have been looking down on us,because Catch 23 fell together really quickly.
4.. Where the hell are we gonna find a drummer? You know their all to**er`s
Shortly afterwards Phil found the man...by pure chance. Phil had recently split with his old band and both he and the other guitarist had placed an add in Music Market asking for a drummer. The other guitarist was called Andy. This was the only reason Andy Lovell answered Phil`s advert. He didn`t want to pick up the phone and say "Hi Andy, its Andy" Very strange behaviour..but luckly for us..made the right choice.
Not long after Phil announced he had found a drummer and a practice was arranged. After a nervous first practice for Andy we all realised he was right for the job and asked him to join.
All the members were in place only 1 month after the intial idea to form the band.
Now that is fate.
Never before or probably again will that happen so quickly for me.
We clicked straight away and we just could`nt believe our luck.

3..The three musketeers and the pub where legend`s are born
Kev mentioned his old friend Phil.He said us 2 would get on really well."Your playing styles would suit each other" After arranging a meeting with Phil in the Coach & Horse`s (the pub where so many Catch 23 vital talks took place) and being introduced to him by Kev,me and Phil talked all night about music and realised we had so much in common. The mighty Catch 23 guitar sound started there. It was like finding a long lost brother. When the question of a drummer arose,we all agreed it might be a problem and started racking our brains for a solution.
